When the music stops when I'm DJing.

Barry Adamson (UK) Australian Tour Sept 2012

Super cool, super sophisticated, Barry Adamson returns to Australia for the first time in four years to tour his new album I Will Set You Free.  Certainly a tour not to miss.

34 years on from the first album he played on, the seminal Magazine's post-punk classic 'Real Life', comes an album that touches on the sonic stepping stones he's used year by year to pave his way to now, his coruscating new album, I Will Set You Free.

The memories and experience from performing and taking his work across the world with Magazine, the Bad Seeds, Iggy Pop, The Gun Club, writing for David Lynch, Danny Boyle, being nominated for the Mercury Prize, scoring an Olivier award-winning ballet, scooping the Best Short Story gong at Italy's Piemonte Noir festival for his debut work of fiction and writing, directing and editing a movie whilst simultaneously heading back to grace the stage with a reformed Magazine during their triumphant 2009 tour... All of which has directly informed this album, colouring it with a steady, sure-handed experience that emanates from the swagger and fingertip fire of rock numbers Get Your Mind Right, Destination & The Sun and The Sea, to the emotive, yearning noir ballads of If You Love Her and Looking To Love Somebody and the new wave inflicted power pop of Turnaround and Stand In.

Barry has ultimately channelled himself to make an album that is unmistakably Barry Adamson, gravitating finally to the core of who he is and revealing his findings to startling results.  Adamson as an artist and an auteur has firmly hit a new peak in his creative stride and, finally free of the shackles of mute obsequiousness, he has created both the album of his career and an album for the year.

25 Things about Terry Serio

What do you do for a living?
I am an actor, singer/songwriter, broadcaster on Fbi 94.5fm

Duration?
All my life.. I remember making up my first song about the moon.. standing on a chair and wrapped in a towel after a bath and being kind of embarrassed about the adult sentiment of it as I waited for Mum to come and dry me off.

What made you choose this role?
I never 'chose' anything. I have always done what feels good at the time. I drift through life occasionally saying 'yes' to the things people throw my way. I used to ride my motorcycle the same way. Just take off but have no idea where i would end up.

Do you have a website? If so supply link
www.terryserio.com.au

Submit your favourite photo of yourself.
Terry Serio
Tell me a bit about yourself?
Raised near a thousand acre lake in a place called Wongan Hills in WA. Irish convict ship (The Phoebe Dunbar) on my Mum's side and Italian, Irish, Scandinavian on my Dad's. All seafarers. Grew up listening to the music my Dad loved.. Benny Goodman, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin. Rainy sing-songs in the car with a windscreen-wiper beat. And black and white movies.

Do you have a belief you are passionate about?
I am passionate about leaving this land like we found it. I fear the people who would turn this land into a toilet probably live in their homes the same way. If they invited me over I would decline the invitation.

What kind of student were you at school?
I wasn't a good student.. but always got through. I love the education theorists who think it is insane to keep a child sitting at a desk all day. I never liked it.

If you could learn to do something, what would it be?
I would love to be able to sketch. Just be able to sit down and draw what's in my head.

What do you like to do in your spare time, hobbies etc?
I love writing songs/playing guitar.. watching long haul HBO shows or any great series on DVD.. walking the dog.

What is your favourite food?
Regional Chinese.

What makes you laugh?
Just like everybody else.. Politicians and their antics..

What makes you cry?
Politicians and their antics.. or if I'm tired.. just about anything.

What pisses you off?
Greed crimes against humanity.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
Trying to kick-start a stubborn Triumph Bonneville in front of The Coffin Cheaters clubhouse. One of those big hairy guys strode over and in one fluid movement moved me away.. took the left handgrip, swung his leg over onto the kick start lever, right hand on the throttle and kicked it into life. He got off the other way keeping one hand blipping the throttle and silently gestured like a bemused livery-man, "Your ride, Sir!" I may have muttered, "Thanks.."

If you could have a super power what would it be and why?
Oh that's easy.. um..

What chore do you hate doing?
My tax..

If you could swap your life with someone else who would it be and why?
Seriously I could only do it for a week I'm afraid.. that's about how long I could put off having sex with his wife I reckon.. I mean before she starts getting suspicious (which is also I suspect a great compliment to the man) Barack Obama

What would you like people to remember about you?
It's arrogant to think you'll be remembered.. I mean what do we really know of Da Vinci the man. On the other hand a song will often linger and speak of you long after you're gone. A song

What do you find attractive about a person?
Beauty, Humility and Humour.

What is your best feature?
My feature rock garden with water fall.. um.. no one would agree.. my legs

What’s on your bucket list?
More travel.. more music.. more life.. trouble is.. the more you do the faster it goes.. eek, maybe just laze away on a beach!!

What is the one thing you’d like to achieve in your life?
I would like to live long enough to know there are 'others' out there...

If the world was about to come to an end, how would you spend your last hour?
I would like to be with friends and dogs near Leighton beach in WA WA land and watch the sun go down over the water one last time..

What’s your favourite possession?
A guitar my Dad helped me buy.

Who is Lorinda Jane?
The girl in the song: MELBOURNE BITTER TEARS

and here it is. Thanks Terry

Thank you Terry for taking the time to answer the 25 questions.  L.J xx
